2018 Toyota RAV4 versus 2018 Nissan Rogue: Who’s the King of Compact Crossovers?

There is simply no other sector in the automotive industry that’s currently hotter than compact crossovers. Automakers are scrambling to release new models at a frantic pace and consumers can’t seem to get enough of them. If you’re currently in the market for this type of vehicle, you might have the 2018 Toyota RAV4 and the 2018 Nissan Rogue on your consideration list. If you’re stuck on which one to go with, we’ve got some good news.

Thomasville Toyota compared the 2018 RAV4 and Rogue to see who comes out on top. Each crossover has its advantages, but in the final analysis, there is a definite winner. So, read on to find out who wins the compact crossover crown when RAV and Rogue go head to head.

Rav4 stands for “Recreational Activity Vehicle: 4-Wheel Drive”

2018 Toyota RAV4 versus 2018 Nissan Rogue: Interior Comparison

As far as interior dimensions are concerned, the 2018 Rogue holds a slight advantage over the RAV4 in front row headroom and legroom. Each also can be equipped at near luxury levels. The Rogue offers “quilted leather appointed seats” and RAV4 counters with SofTex trimmed seats. Each also offers quality standard features on even their base trim levels.

In light of the lack of significant advantages either model holds over the other in the interior category, we’re calling this segment comparison a draw. The 2018 RAV4 and Rogue both deliver quality interiors and accompanying features.

2018 Toyota RAV4 versus 2018 Nissan Rogue: Exterior Comparison

Just like the interior category, both vehicles match up equally well exterior-wise. They are both within an inch or less of each other in length and width. When addressing exterior style, it’s a subjective matter. It’s been four to five years since each compact crossover was redesigned with a brand new style, but neither comes across as stale or overdue for a new look.

2018 Toyota RAV4 versus 2018 Nissan Rogue: Technology Comparison

It’s difficult to find a new vehicle rolling off any manufacturer assembly line these days that isn’t well equipped with tech options. That’s definitely the case with both the 2018 Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue. Each offers a wide variety of infotainment and safety technology.

The 2018 Rogue scores points for the inclusion of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality with its infotainment system. Those are two options that the 2018 RAV4 doesn’t have. Toyota’s compact crossover, however, comes standard with the Safety Sense P package of driver assistance features. That includes tech like Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, and Automatic High Beams. This package is standard no matter what 2018 RAV4 model you choose. Rogue does include a few driver assistance features via their Nissan Intelligent Mobility package, but it’s no match for the complete suite provided by Toyota.

2018 RAV4 offers more towing capacity (1500 lbs) than 2018 Rogue (1102)

2018 Toyota RAV4 versus 2018 Nissan Rogue: Performance Comparison

The 2018 RAV4 is powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that delivers quality fuel efficiency ratings along with 176 horsepower. The Rogue counters with a 2.5L powertrain that’s capable of producing 170 horsepower. The Rogue bests the RAV4 in fuel efficiency while RAV4 offers more horsepower than Rogue. Each vehicle is also available with an all-wheel drive system.

Which one is the better performer? Impossible to say in our opinion. They both stack up equally well. This segment comparison is definitely a push.

2018 Toyota RAV4 versus 2018 Nissan Rogue: Who’s the True Compact Crossover King?

At first glance, the 2018 RAV4 and 2018 Rogue match up well. Several of our segment comparisons were close or outright ties with the exception of RAV4’s advantage in technology. One fact that we didn’t cover was that the 2018 RAV4 costs slightly less than the 2018 Rogue. Another item to consider is Toyota’s reputation for building dependable, reliable, and long lasting vehicles. The legendary quality of the Toyota brand is something no amount of money can quantify. For this and other reasons, we’re recommending the 2018 RAV4 over the 2018 Rogue. While the Nissan model is a good vehicle, it’s no match for the longevity of the 2018 RAV4.
