2020 RAV4 vs. 2020 Rogue

Crossover SUVs are defined by balance, with smooth handling and spacious accommodations common for the class. However, it takes more than the basics to earn a driver’s attention in this competitive field, and the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Rogue have both become popular SUV options thanks to their appealing style and broad range of features. Between the two vehicles, there are some differences worth considering, so let’s take a closer look to see which one is the prime pick for your interests.

Performance

If you’re looking for a stable, balanced ride for your in-city commute, both options uphold the class standards for relaxed driving. The distinctions become instantly apparent when you head out on the highway, though, and the RAV4 packs more muscle under the hood than its rival. Toyota equips their SUV with a 203-horsepower 4-cylinder engine that ensures swift acceleration whenever you need it. In contrast, the Rogue’s 17-horsepower engine takes its time rising up to merging speed, and it creates a tremendous amount of noise in the process. If you’re interested in some trail exploration, the 2020 RAV4 accommodates with a fresh TRD Off-Road trim, complete with rugged gear like Falken all-terrain tires and specialized suspension. The Rogue is not equipped for such duties, and should stay behind on the pavement.

Interior Quality

The RAV4 was fully redesigned in 2019, and the timely update endows the SUV with a stylish and sophisticated cabin. It offers plenty of space for all your passengers with a bright and airy atmosphere, and both rows promise ample cushioning even when you’re committed to a long road trip. The Rogue hasn’t been redesigned since 2014, and while its fit and finish are acceptable by class standards, they don’t present the same style, comfort, and quality as the freshly upgraded RAV4.

Technology

Both vehicles come standard with smartphone synchronization via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto, but the RAV4 also features additional standard tech for which you’ll have to pay extra to access in the Rogue. In addition to its connectivity tools, the RAV4 comes with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot as well as Amazon Alexa. The RAV4 also provides more standard safety systems like traffic sign recognition and lane trace assist. The apps in each SUV are accessed through 7-inch touchscreens, but the differences between these interfaces are in the details. The RAV4’s modern infotainment system presents easy inputs through a combination of touchscreen control and physical buttons and knobs. On the other hand, critics have lamented that the Rogue’s infotainment interface seems visually outdated when compared to its crossover contemporaries.
