Sold in the United States since 1995, the Toyota Tacoma enters the fourth generation for the 2024 model year. It shares a platform with the larger Toyota Tundra, has new styling, and includes a revamped interior. Toyota also fits it with a more powerful and efficient powertrain.
Furthermore, the 2024 Tacoma has technological enhancements and safety features at par with Toyota’s latest car and SUV models. Independent testers have been impressed by the all-new Tacoma, calling it a potential class-beater in the midsize pickup truck segment.
Toyota offers the all-new 2024 Tacoma in six trims.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma offers two cab styles. The SR, SR5, and TRD PreRunner trims have a two-door cab called the Xtracab as standard. This cab provides seating for a driver and passenger and a cargo area behind the seats. This area includes a reinforced MOLLE storage panel for better weight-carrying capacity. The front seat of the Xtracab also offers a near-flat folding capability to double up as a work surface.
Meanwhile, the TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited are only available as a four-door Double Cab. The Double Cab offers spacious and comfortable seating for up to five occupants. This cab can also be optioned for the three lower trims.
Higher trims of the Double Cab add two-tone leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air vents, and rear passenger USB charging ports. Toyota also says the Double Cab offers three times more under-seat storage than the 2023 Tacoma.
The Xtracab and Double Cab include a hidden storage pocket within the driver’s side of the dashboard. Moreover, buyers get front USB charging ports, 12-volt power outlets, and larger cup holders.
The TRD Pro trim comes with special seats, called the IsoDynamic seats, for front-seat occupants. Toyota has engineered these seats to provide enhanced comfort and support when off-roading at high speeds. The seats use an air-over-oil shock absorber system within their structure. Hence, they cushion and reduce unwanted forces on the human body, such as when taking jumps. The user can adjust damping levels or switch off the system.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been fully redesigned for a distinctive and purposeful appearance. All trims include Toyota’s hexagonal front grille, flanked by LED headlamps with automatic high beams on higher trims. The TRD trims gain flared fenders, extra lighting, and a distinctive front grille design.
Higher trims add powered running boards for easier entry and exit to the passenger cabin. At the rear, a power-operated rear tailgate is included. In addition, buyers are offered a range of 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels. Some trims also include all-terrain tires.
Buyers can pick the bed size for their chosen 2024 Tacoma. However, this is cab-dependent. The Xtracab only has a six-foot cargo bed, while the Double Cab can have this or a shorter five-foot cargo bed.
Twelve colors are available for 2024 Tacoma buyers to choose from. Some come with a contrasting black roof for a striking visual appearance. Here’s a few:
Toyota offers its latest i-FORCE turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine for the 2024 Tacoma range. Depending on the trim, the engine's power and torque outputs vary.
Buyers can also pick between two transmission types. There’s an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters on some trims. Then, there's a six-speed manual transmission. This gearbox includes anti-stall technology, as well as automatic rev-matching on downshifts.
The SR trim gets 243 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque for either transmission type. Higher trims come with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the automatic transmission. On the other hand, choosing the manual transmission reduces outputs to 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
The 2024 Tacoma range has rear-wheel drive in most trims, with an automatic limited-slip differential as standard equipment. However, some trims come with four-wheel drive, which can be optioned on others. Choosing a four-wheel drive system also adds an electronically actuated two-speed transfer case with high and low ranges.
The 2024 Tacoma can tow up to 6,500 pounds. Its maximum payload capacity is up to 1,705 pounds.
If it's time for a new midsize pickup truck, choose the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, and you won't regret it. Improved in every way, the 2024 Tacoma is a deeply impressive vehicle.
