The 2024 Toyota Tacoma and the 2024 Chevy Colorado are top choices for midsize pickup trucks. Midsize pickup trucks offer a more maneuverable and easy-to-drive design for those commuting in urban environments. However, they are still extremely capable in terms of pulling power and payload capacity. Moreover, they come with plenty of tech, safety features, and performance for urban plus highway driving. For 2024, The Tacoma enters a new generation. Hence, it is a redesigned and re-engineered model. The 2024 Colorado continues from its current generation.
To discover which is the best midsize pickup truck, we’re going to have a Toyota vs. Chevy comparison. We’ll look at each model’s interior aspects, safety suites, and performance specifications. Then, we can advise you on which one you should be driving.

Toyota offers two cab designs for the all-new 2024 Tacoma range. There’s an Xtracab design with two doors, and a four-door Double Cab. The Xtracab is perfect for those who need just two seats. It comes with plenty of in-cabin storage. There’s underfloor storage, a lockable rear storage area, and MOLLE panel side pockets. The passenger seat can even be flat-folded and used as a workspace. Meanwhile, the Double Cab provides roomy accommodation for five adults. It also comes with a hidden storage space beneath the rear seat cushion and extra space behind the rear seat backs. Meanwhile, the Colorado is only available in four-door form. It doesn’t offer many of these smart storage solutions either.
The Tacoma can be equipped with heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and a power driver seat. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also present for higher trims. Then, the TRD Pro trim offers Toyota’s IsoDynamic front seats, which cushion and protect occupants from shocks during high-speed off-road driving. They feature a system of integrated shock absorbers.
Smartphone connectivity is addressed via standard Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® for both trucks. They also come with Bluetooth® hands-free and wireless audio streaming. Higher trims of the Tacoma and the Colorado get a digital gauge cluster, too. The 2024 Tacoma also offers a 10-speaker JBL sound system upgrade. The Colorado only offers a 7-speaker Bose sound system upgrade, and no Bluetooth® connection.
The Tacoma offers a choice of a 5-foot or 6-foot cargo bed for the Double Cab. The Xtracab has a 6-foot bed by default. A power-operated tailgate is also available. Then, Toyota lets you equip your Tacoma’s bed with some useful features. These include a 2,400-watt AC power outlet and inverter, an air compressor, and exterior scene lighting. The 2024 Colorado doesn’t offer any of these.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma range has a 2.4L turbocharged engine that can produce 227 to 278 HP. Buyers can pick between a manual or automatic transmission, depending on trim choice. Most trims come with a RWD system, but can be specified with a 4WD system. Others, such as some TRD trims, are 4WD. These trims also bring all-terrain tires, underbody protection, and extra ground clearance. Meanwhile, the TrailHunter trim comes with a tougher suspension system.
The 2024 Chevy Colorado gets a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that can deliver between 227 and 310 horsepower, depending on the trim. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is standard. Buyers can choose rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Chevrolet also offers some off-road trims.
The Tacoma also comes in hybrid form, with up to 326 horsepower. Chevy doesn’t offer a hybrid Colorado.
Every 2024 Tacoma is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense™, which is the newest iteration. Hence, standard features include proactive driving assistance, automatic braking, and front pedestrian detection. Rear pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, and lane departure warning are also included. Moreover, every Tacoma has radar-guided cruise control. Unfortunately, the 2024 Colorado doesn’t have such advanced safety features.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is notably better than the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado in terms of interior design, performance, and safety. That makes it our recommendation, and we know that you’ll enjoy it too.
